Vintage 1950s Alberto Ascari business card

This is a vintage early 1950's Alberto Ascari business card with his personal address at 60, Corsa Sempione, Milano, Italy.

Alberto is one of the most famous Ferrari racing personalities of the 1950's, having been crowned Formula 1 world-champion 1952 (winning ALL 6 races in Europe, his attempt at the Indy 500 failed after 40 laps...) and 1953 and is 1 of only 2 Italian Formula One World Champions.

Alberto also won the 1954 Mille Miglia on Lancia, driving solo.

One of his most famous moments is probably the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix where he launched his Lancia D50 into the Monaco harbor!

One week later, May 26, 1955, while testing a Ferrari sports car at Monza, he crashed fatally at the Curva di Vialone which would later be renamed the "Variante Ascari" in his honor.

This business card measures some 10.5 x 7 inches (approximately 4 x 3 inches), is in good condition for its age (bar 2 staple holes) and carries the handwritten text "Ringraziando Vi contraccambio vivamente" which roughly translates into "I kindly thank you in return".

The rear shows the stamp of, equally famous, motorsport photographer Franco Zagari (1930 - 2012) from who's collection this card came.

Vintage June 1955 Domenica del Corriere Alberto Ascari Deadly Crash

Vintage June 1955 Domenica del Corriere Alberto Ascari Deadly Crash

Vintage June 1955 Domenica del Corriere Alberto Ascari Deadly Crash.

This is a vintage & original June 5 1955 issue of Italian magazine "Domenica del Corriere" which pays attention to the untimely death of Italian racing ace Alberto Ascari.

On May 26, 1955 Alberto tried out the Ferrari 750 Monza S/N 0562M which he was to share with Eugenio Castellotti at the Autodromo di Monza. During the third lap, the car started to skid inexplicably, somersaulted and Alberto was slung from the car onto the track where he died a couple of minutes later.

The (fast!) corner where this accident happened, the "Curva di Vialone", was later renamed "Variante Ascari" in his honor.

Since there is no photographic account of the accident itself or the aftermath, the magazine had to make do with a more than excellent and very dramatic artist's impression which shows Alberto being slung from the car. That image is used on a full page which makes it excellently suited for framing.

Furthermore, there is a full page account of the accident including drawings of the path of the car and it pays attention to earlier, similar accidents and the crash of Alberto's father, Antonio Ascari at Montlhery in 1925.

Excellent condition for its age!
